Events Producer

Contract: 2 years • Salary: £25,000 per year pro rata (£20,000 per year for 4 days per week)

Hours: 28 hours per week

Closing date: 11 October 2021 • Interview date: 22 October 2021

Do you love collaborating with diverse partners to create unforgettable live events, bringing communities together to make the most of historic spaces and collections through workshops, performances, venue hires and tours?

The Portico Library is seeking to expand and broaden its small, passionate team to help it welcome and engage new visitors and develop its members’ events programme. As Events Producer, you will create opportunities for more people than ever to discover and enjoy the Library’s spectacular building, history and collection of over 25,000 mostly 19th-century books and illustrations. Working closely with colleagues across the Library’s varied activities, you will become an integral member of the team, supporting communities and creatives to develop new events and uses for this unique and stunning place. Contributing towards the growth of the Library’s ambitious education and literacy programmes, you will inspire a life-long love of learning in children and adults, particularly supporting those who have experienced exclusion and under-representation in arts and heritage. Your imagination, energy, and strong organisation skills will help you to develop and promote an eclectic schedule of events in a busy, varied working environment.

This role presents an opportunity to share captivating and challenging literary materials with a wide range of collaborators, visitors, members and readers, and to draw upon rare historic books and archives in the creation of innovative 21st-century conversations and events. Your work will make the Library more sustainable and secure by devising new ways to attract project grants and income from events, tours, hires, performances and workshops, as well as helping to guide the Library’s valued free public events programmes.

Having shared and shaped over 200 years of its city’s history, the Portico Library is now at a pivotal moment in its own story. Registered as a charity just 3 years ago, it is rapidly evolving into a 21st-century centre of literature and learning, open and accessible to all.
