Glossary of the Lancashire Dialect, The English Dialect Society, 1875

These Victorian collections of vocabulary from each region of England include hundreds of local names for games. The Lancashire editions include snap apple (apple bobbing); kales (ninepins); handy dandy (where players guess which hand objects are hidden in); and jackstones, or bobber and kibs (played with marbles and sheep knuckle bones).
