Gray Wielebinski

In Everybody's Book of Hobbies, 'Collectors' Hobbies' have their own chapter, with subchapters on stamps, antiques, and 'decorative curios'.

Gray Wielebinski's baseball cards combine familiar modern collectibles with embroidery, listed in this book under 'Women's Hobbies'. Gray says that by using cards from their own childhood collection and the iconography of popular sports they can consider "strategies for exploring identity... specifically ambivalent relationships to masculinity".

Their work also considers the relationship between sport and national identity, and how the spectacle and coverage of large-scale sporting events rehearse and reinforce heteronormative ideas of ‘Americanness’.
