Detailed map of the City of Manchester and surrounding areas in 1819 as featured in The Portico Library’s summer 2019 exhibition Making the News: Reading between the lines, from Peterloo to Meskel Square. Colour print on 300gsm white card, reproduced from the original at The Portico Library.  41 x 49cm. All prints are backed with 2mm board.

This map shows many well-known Manchester locations and landmarks including Piccadilly Gardens (which at that time contained the infirmary), St Peter’s Field (near present day St Peter’s Square), the site of the Peterloo Massacre, Deansgate, Market Street, Ancoats and what is now the Northern Quarter.

Proceeds from the sale of this print contribute to The Portico Library's non-profit public programme.

The Portico Library’s exhibition ‘Making the News: Reading between the lines, from Peterloo to Meskel Square’ runs from July 5th-September 23rd 2019.
