About the Gallery

Although the Library has hosted exhibitions since the 1960s the Portico's gallery was formally established in 1987 and seeks to provide a creative space at the heart of Manchester, supporting artists of the region and beyond. We host a wide variety of exhibitions, showcasing the talents of established and emerging artists working in a diverse range of styles and media. The Gallery also hosts many exhibitions that promote our collections and our partnerships with other institutions locally, regionally and nationally.

The gallery is open to the general public and admission to all of our exhibitions is free.
