We aim to promote open access to the Portico, and while we are very proud to be one of the few independent libraries still housed in our original Grade II* building, this unfortunately has some limitations that we are working to address.
The Portico is located on the first floor and is accessible by stairs at the front entrance or a stair lift at the back entrance; The front stairs are divided into short flights of no more than six steps with several places to stop and sit along the way.
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the building.
Guided/descriptive tours of the exhibitions and library can be arranged by appointment.
If you require assistance during your visit, please contact us in advance by telephone (0161 236 6785) or email.
