The Notice Board is intended to provide news and links to the Library's activities and affiliations. It may also serve as a forum for news and views and we would welcome input from the Members (in the Members' Protected area) and the Public.

An umbrella organisation promoting the well-being of all the Societies associated with Greater Manchester - representing their views and their aspirations at City, Region and National levels. The Members of Manchester Societies are the Societies themselves - not their members. The range of interests of these Societies reflects the breadth of intellectual life in Greater Manchester - some are relatively newly established, some are over two hundred years old. Welcome to Courses for the Public from the University of Manchester. Our courses are designed to give you an opportunity to share in the research and scholarship of the University of Manchester. We offer a varied and changing programme with an emphasis on learning for pleasure. Our programme is aimed at adults and is delivered by tutors experienced in working with adult students. Expect a stimulating atmosphere, generating ideas and discussion. To accommodate people with a range of lifestyles our courses are of varied length. We offer day-schools and short study visits as well as daytime and evening courses of between 6 and 12 weekly sessions.

The Association of Independent Libraries was formed in 1988 to bring together those libraries in the United Kingdom who depend mainly on charitable donations or membership fees. Their diverse collections make up a historic archive of the reading and collecting habits of the people who built them, ranging from Chetham's Library and The London Library to The Newcastle Literary & Philosophical Society and Westerkirk Parish Library.

The Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society, founded in 1883, actively promotes the study of the history of Lancashire and Cheshire. Its sphere includes archaeology (both traditional and industrial), social history, trade and trades, architecture and the arts and much more!
