The Assembly
Schools Art Prize and Exhibition

2007 Preview evening The Portico Library and Gallery presents its annual Schools' Exhibition and Art Prize during October. The Assembly has become an extremely successful pioneering event showcasing the work of 5th and 6th form students from schools and colleges across the North West. Culminating in an art prize the exhibition provides an opportunity for pupils to show and sell their work in a commercial city centre gallery.

2005 AssemblyIt is a celebration of young people and their talent as well as the institutions which provide the teaching and support for the next generation of budding artists. The Portico is keen to help develop confidence and self esteem through the medium of art by bringing together local communities for this successful exhibition.

Awards being given 2007The Exhibition receives local support with generous prizes being donated in past years by The Yang Sing, Fred Aldous, Colyer Thorpe and the C.I.S and more recently with the addition of Urban Splash, The Bloxham Charitable Trust and The Stoller Charitable Trust.

This year we would like to especially thank Corpfin - a Part of Experian for sponsoring the exhibition.
In addition, we would also like to thank the sponsors of the prizes: The Bloxham Charitable Trust; Experian; Little Hill Farm, Stoller Charitable Trust and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, CYPS.
As usual the impossible and unenviable task of judging the work falls onto three professional people whose backgrounds are quite varied and relevant to the job in hand: Ian Starr, Contemporary Art Dealer; Mike Stevenson, Artist, Writer & Teacher; Emma Unsworth, Writer, Editor & Journalist.
